Quality Guidelines

  • ONLY submit websites relevant to the United Kingdom.
  • All websites will be reviewed for inclusion by our editors. Our decision on inclusion is final.
  • Make sure that your <title> tag, description meta tag and ALT attributes are descriptive and accurate.
  • Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content.
  • Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number.
  • If your website participates in affiliate program(s), make sure that it also provides substantial unique content.
  • Don't submit websites with substantially duplicate content to other websites already listed.
  • Don't load pages with irrelevant keywords.
  • Do not submit websites that redirect to an alternative URL.
  • Do not submit websites that provide different content to our search engine spider than that displayed to your users (cloaking).
  • Do not submit websites that are unfinished or 'under construction'.
  • Ensure that your webpages are quick to load. Webpages that are slow to load provide a poor search experience for our users.
  • When your website is ready submit it here.

Technical Guidelines

  • If your website serves a local community ensure that your homepage, or a page linked from the homepage, contains a business address and postcode. This will help us list your website when a user is looking for services in a particular location.
  • Make use of the robots.txt file on your web server. This file tells crawlers which directories can or cannot be crawled.
  • Where appropriate, use a robots meta tag to direct our spider to noindex an individual page or nofollow links from that page.
  • We recommend using rel="nofollow" on links included in UGC (user generated comments) such as blog comments and on links to affiliate or advertising programs.

Improve Your Listings

Providing a link from your website to our homepage http://www.gawwk.co.uk/ will improve your website's freshness and visibility on Gawwk.

Ensure that the link is clearly visible on your homepage or a page linked directly from your homepage. The page linking to Gawwk must be able to be indexed and the link should be able to be followed by our spider.

  • It will improve the freshness of your results on Gawwk (our spider will visit more often).
  • It will also increase the number of pages included in our index (we spider deeper).
  • It will also promote your website to featured status in our UK web directory.
  • It does not improve your website's ranking in any way.

Removing an existing spidered link to Gawwk will result in a subsequent return to standard levels of freshness and visibility.
